ORIGIN: Found in Cuba, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Colombia and Ecuador in tall evergreen forests on steep slopes at elevations around 200 to 2700 meters.

DESCRIPTION: Medium to large sized, hot to cold growing terrestrial with thick, fleshy roots, carrying basal, coriaceous, green tinged with purple, cordate, acute leaf with a long petiole that blooms in the winter and spring on an erect, racemose, many flowered, to 2' [60 cm] long, green inflorescence carrying many, inconspicuous flowers. This species is similar to P stachyodes but is distinguished by the [generally single] large, cordate leaf and by the green small flowers, instead of purple.
