ORIGIN: Found in Denmark, Finland, Great Britain, Ireland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Austria, Belgium, Czechloslaovakia, Germany, Neteherlands, Switzerland, Poland, Spain, France, Italy, Yugoslavia, Bulgaria, Romania, Ukraine, eastern Russia, Greenland, Newfoundland and Quebec in grasslands, montane fens and open woodlands at elevations up to 1000 meters.

DESCRIPTION: Small to just medium sized, cold growing terrestrial orchid with a short stem carrying 3 to 7, oblong-elliptic to lanceolate, near erect, positioned all aong the stem leaves with the uppermost 2 to 3 being bract-like and are equal to or longer than the ovaries that blooms on an erect, 1 to 3 [2.5 to 7.5 cm] long, densly many flowered, spire-like, racemose inflorescence occurring in the late spring and early summer.
