ORIGIN: Found in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, New Jersey, Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Missisippi and Arkansas in damp meadows, low wet woods, streamsides and roadside ditches.

DESCRIPTION: Large sized, cold growing terrestrial with 2 to 5, cauline, elliptic-lanceolate, keeled leaves taht gradually reduce to bracts towards the inflorescence that blooms in the late spring through summer on a erect, leafy, 8 to 28 [20 to 45 cm] long, many flowered inflorescence carrying fragrant flowers.
