ORIGIN: Found in Colombia and Ecuador on steep embankments mixed with grass and shrubs in upper montane forests at elevations of 2900 to 4300 meters.

DESCRIPTION: Medium sized, cold growing terrestrial with a stem carrying lanceolate, basally clasping, acute leaves that blooms in the winter on an erect, 8 [20 cm] long, densely many flowered inflorescence enveloped completely by tubular sheaths and carrying non-resupinate flowers with slender, maroon floral bracts.
