ORIGIN: Found in Oriente state of Cuba in serpentine thickets at elevations of 200 to 900 meters.

DESCRIPTION: Medium sized, hot to warm growing epiphyte with green below fading to brownish purple above if exposed to sun, with tightly clustered, ovoid to fusiform, slightly compressed, tapering towards the apex pseudobulbs carrying 1 to 2, apical, suberect, thick, coriaceous, linear-ligulate, somewhat tapering, obtuse leaves that blooms in the mid spring through later summer on a terminal, erect, brown purple, stout, erect-arching, 18.4 to 28 [46 to 70 cm] long peduncle with triangular-cucullate, acute purple bracts at the nodes, laxly paniculate, each of the 3 to 7 branches up to 33.2 [to 83 cm] long, 42 [1.5 m] long overall, laxly many flowered inflorescence carrying tricolored flowers smelling of soap.
