Phaius montanus is an orchid species identified by Schltr. in 1912.
ORIGIN: This large sized, warm to cool growing terrestrial species is endemic to Papua and New Guinea on sharp ridges in the mistforests zone of the Torricelli range in humus between large stones in semi-open, bushy areas at elevations of 800 to 1300 meters.
DESCRIPTION: This large sized, warm to cool growing terrestrial species is endemic to Papua and New Guinea on sharp ridges in the mistforests zone of the Torricelli range in humus between large stones in semi-open, bushy areas at elevations of 800 to 1300 meters with oval pseudobulbs carrying 4 to 6, petiolate, elliptic, acuminate, plicate, cuneate below into the petiolate base leaves that blooms on an erect, 32 [80 cm] long, terete, glabrous, laxly 6 to 15 flowered inflorescence with the long lasting flowers crowded into the apical third of the inflorescence, all occurring in the spring and summer.
