ORIGIN: Found in western Hubei, western Sichuan, northwestern Yunnan and southeastern Xizang China in mixed forests or on scrubby and grassy slopes at elevations of 2400 to 3400 meters.

DESCRIPTION: Medium sized, cold growing terrestrial with oblong to ovoid tubers giving rise to an erect, rather stout stems and carrying 5 to 7, elliptic-ligulate to oblong-lanceolate, acuminate, amplexicaul below leaves that blooms in the summer on a terminal, racemose, to 6 [15 cm] long, several to 10 flowered inflorescence with elliptic-lanceolate bracts and rather large, fragrant flowers.
