Black areas appear on cattleyas during hot weather but they are not likely caused by sunburn although the symptoms are similar; deficiency symptoms are most prevalent when cattleyas are in active growth and new leads are maturing; add a little lime to the top of the potting medium: a level teaspoon to a 6inch pot is ample. F83-54

It causes young leaves to turn black at the tip, then spreads downward, preceded by ye1low "halo" or margin; apply lime to the top of the mix in the pot. AH86-101; F87-58
