Why does it not cause crown rot in phalaenopsis?; water only on warm, clear days and with good air movement and ventilation; if crown rot does occur do not use Benlate, better use Physan 20, or Natriphene. A77-209

Watering Methods Comments
WATERING METHODS: A "check-pot" Guide An average size pot is filled with usual drainage crock (which is then secured to the bottom with screen mesh), and then filled with the usual potting medium; at intervals the medium is tipped out to estimate the moisture in the pot, and by extension all the other pots with plants in them; in Florida. A75-492 0
WATERING METHODS: Converted Washing-machine An old style top-loading automatic washer is required; strip it to the motor and tub; directions given for adapting fittings and valves; arranged to provide pressure feed for water and/or fertilizer solution to the exact amount; refer to A63-365 0
WATERING METHODS: Individual Tube System It is satisfactory, but one problem is the localized or concentrated flow of water. A76-14 0
WATERING METHODS: In Grower's Absence for Two Weeks Water each plant, if they are not too numerous, and place each in a plastic polybag with the top closed. A67-1095 0
WATERING METHODS: Ring-type Distribution Collars in the Pots They are satisfactory for a terrestrial mix; in a porous mix the moisture is not evenly distributed. F78-113 0
WATERING METHODS: Temperature Controlled Water Attach a "Y" hose connector to the household hot and cold water taps so that it can be used to adjust the proportion of warm water into the hose; adjust temperature to about 70 deg.F.; automatic tempering valves are also available. A70-20 0
