Non-orchid plant seedlings have been killed in new glass houses by a plasticizer called dibutyl phthlate (DBP) but not by a related product called didecyl phthlate; DBP occurs in some PVC pipe used to water plants in polypropylene seed trays; it is also lurking in some glazing strips, flexible pots, reinforced hose-pipe, insulated wire, etc.; plants die after four weeks exposure to it.
