Sarcochilus hirticalcar is an orchid species identified by (Dockrill) M.A.Clem. & B.J.Wallace in 1998.
ORIGIN: Found as a miniature to small sized, warm to cool growing epiphyte in Queensland Australia [Cape York Pennisula] at elevations of 300 to 650 meters on trunks and major branches along streams in shady locations.
DESCRIPTION: Found as a miniature to small sized, warm to cool growing epiphyte in Queensland Australia [Cape York Pennisula] at elevations of 300 to 650 meters on trunks and major branches along streams in shady locations. The species is charachterized by having a short stem with 4 to 8, thin, curved, linear leaves that blooms on an axillary, 1 1/4 [3 cm] long, arcuate, racemose inflorescence with up to 8 flowers but only 2 or 3 open at a time occurring in the late spring and summer.
FLOWER SIZE: 1/2 inch [1.25 cm]
