homemade method for sowing orchid seeds

General Discussion

by Roberto Lizama

In an AOS bulletin, around 1975 -1977 they published a method of germinating orchid seeds at home using test tubes and introducing the seeds with a syringe. If anyone has it or can share a homemade method, I will appreciate it.

Hello. Thanks for the info. Finding a copy of that date is what has become difficult, I will see if there is any digital version of it. Regards.

Hi Roberto, Looking at a search of articles in AOS there is one titled, “Sowing of Orchid Seed - made easy” by Ehrenfried Lucie in 1975. Vol 44, page 109. I just looked at the AOS website and they have digitized articles starting in 2003. Maybe one of your orchid friends has that back issue. I also asked an orchid friend who flasks and she knew the exact book you need. It is “Growing Orchids From Seed” by Margaret Ramsay & Philip Seaton, Kew in England. The book has everything from the toothpick on. You might be able to find that. Good Luck. Carol
