Description: Pleurothallis chloroleuca is an orchid species identified by Lindl. in 1846. DESCRIPTION: Found in Colombia, Venezuela and northern Ecuador in the eastern cordillera of the Andes as a small to medium sized, cool to cold growing epiphyte that occurs at elevations of 1000 to 2500 meters with stout, erect ramicauls enveloped basally by 2 to 3 tubular sheaths and another below the middle carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, elliptical-ovate, acute to subacute leaf that is cuneate basally into a distinct petiole that blooms in the summer and fall with a short, fasciculate inflorescence arising from a spathe with a cluster of simultaneous single flowers held at the base of the leaf. FLOWER SIZE: 2/5 inch [1 cm] -- information provided by Jay Pfahl, author of the Internet Orchid Species Encyclopedia (IOSPE).
Culture: I recently purchased this orchid and it will be located in a shady spot. I will bring it inside in the summer, since this orchid likes cool weather and the weather in Florida is very warm...I look forward to seeing it bloom!
