Bark removed from a tree by mechanical means rather than by the jet process has too much wood mixed in; it causes mycelium mold to form rapidly in the pot; it is possibly injurious to the plant; it becomes impossible to penetrate it with water; causes dehydration; modern bark seems to have lots of scraps of it.
