The International Orchid Foundation is a nonprofit established in 2013. We work on a specific problem: orchid knowledge is scattered, inconsistent, and often wrong, and the people best placed to fix it — growers, judges, taxonomists — rarely write to each other. Our mission is to advance the understanding and cultivation of orchids by making reliable information freely available to anyone who grows these plants.

About

We stay useful

We would rather answer one grower's question well than publish a report nobody reads.

We take cultivation seriously

A species held in cultivation is a species not yet lost. Growers keep orchids alive outside their habitats, and we treat them as the experts they are.

We publish what we know

Information that sits in a private collection helps nobody. Our reference work is open to members, and we correct it in public when we get something wrong.

How we work

Three commitments

Our view

Orchids are the largest plant family on Earth, and most of them are still poorly known. That is the work.
