Common name: Crimson or Ruby lipped Cattleya
Derivation: for the large lip
Type: Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Plant: epiphytic, compressed club-shaped pseudobulbs (12-30cm) covered with sheaths, one leathery oblong leaf (6 x 15-25cm) at apex
Flowers: inflorescence comes from two sheaths, 2-5 pale to bright rose flowers (12.5-15cm), magenta-purple lip with rose-lilac margins, yellow throat with purple veining
Bloomtimes: January to April
Habitat: areas of distinct rainy and dry seasons
Comments: now uncommon in some of it's native range
Distribution Range: Brazil (Ceará, Paraiba, Pernambuco, Alagoas, Espirito Santo, Rio de Janeiro, Guanabara)
