OrchidMania's Second President
Meet Brian Metzler
Brian Metzler has been an orchid lover since he first saw a friend's collection in Virginia nearly thirteen years ago. His is the familiar story of one plant purchased and no turning back. Believing that through their beauty orchids somehow represented the beauty of friends lost to AIDS, he began to remember friends with specific plants in his collection. He first discovered OrchidMania while buying a Paphiopedilum Maudiae to remember a recently departed friend. A flyer on the counter at the San Francisco flower shop was the beginning of a long and productive relationship with OrchidMania.

Metzler served as vice-president for three years, and was the first greenhouse manager for the corporation. In fact, OrchidMania's first greenhouse was assembled in his backyard on Haight Street in San Francisco. He was instrumental in the construction of OrchidMania's Orchid Temple serving as project manager. He was responsible for the concept of the permanent collection of rare and endangered wild collected orchids. Metzler has a bachelor's degree in anthropology and continues to watch the world with fascination and curiosity. The silent voices sing to him through the faces of the flowers he loves.
